Localização polémica desde o
início, embora as críticas fossem contidas por respeito ao Mestre ou por
embaraço. Destruiu a panorâmica que se tinha ao entrar o porto, escondeu a
Igreja Ortodoxa assente sobre um embasamento que a tornava visível à distância.
Katajanokka é a maior concentração de edifícios em Art Noveau na Europa, um
conjunto coerente, quarteirão após quarteirão. O edifício está lá há 50 anos.
Talvez agora com as intervenções mais recentes já nem se repare.
Controversial location from the beginning, but
critics was contained out of respect for the Master or embarrassment. It destroyed the skyline enjoyed when entering
the harbour, the Orthodox Church on top of a small Hill. Katajanokka is the largest concentration of
Jungendstil in Europe, a coherent townscape, block after block. The building is still there for 50 years. Maybe
with the recent interventions nobody notices anymore.

ribeirinha, um dos inúmeros canais entre ilhas.
Uma transição suave entre o edificado e a
paisagem natural. Um santuário para a fauna durante todo o ano.

residential area in eastern Helsinki. Medium density ocupation, specially on
the waterfront. A very successful transition between housing and the
natural landscape. A sanctuary for the fauna round the year.

Uma frente marítima
mediterrânica. Grande densidade de construção por camadas ao longo dos séculos,
mas obedecendo à mesma matriz, lote e escala.
A
mediterranean waterfornt. High density of building in layers along centuries, all
under the same matrix, the plot and scale.
LA GIUDECCA, VENEZZIA - ITALY
Tradição e modernidade soa a
chavão, mas nada impede de se fazer obra contemporânea sem entrar em ruptura
com o existente. Um excelente contributo para a tão propalada sustentabilidade
talvez passe por um acto de humildade dos intervenientes no Território e deslocar
grande boa parte da indústria de construção para a reabilitação. Redescobrir
velhos saberes e fundi-los com novas tecnologias. Seria decerto um grande
contributo para suster o aumento da nossa pegada ecológica.
Tradition
and modernity sounds like a chiché, but there is nothing preventing to do
contenporanean work with having to clash with the past and the existing buildings.
An excelent contribution to so much apraised sustainability could pass through
an act of humblety of the intervienients in the Territory and displace a good
part of the construction industry to renovation, discovering again old knowledge
and merging it with new technology. It certainly woul be a great contribute to
contain our ever growing of our ecological footprint.

O trabalho deste arquitecto italiano demonstra bem que não é necessário
romper com a escala e com o lote quando se intervém em espaços urbanos antigos
para implantar equipamento exigindo grandes áreas.
The work of this Italian
architect demonstrates well that there’s no need to break with the scale and
the plot when implanting big equipments on old quarters.
